Bio:

M.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Egan the author of The Bridge of Deaths. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, one of eight children. From a very young age she became obsessed with the story of her maternal Grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo, mostly the story of how he died. She only spent her childhood in Mexico. Her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C.

From the early 1970s at the age of 12 she moved with her entire family to the United States. She was already fluent in Southern English as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award; ironically being the only one who had English as a second language in her class. In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill HS in Potomac, Maryland in 1977. She attended Montgomery Community College, where she changed majors every semester. She also studied in Lyons, France at the Catholic University for two years. In 1981, due to an impulsive young marriage to a Viking ( The Swedish kind, not the football player kind)  Catalina moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She returned to the USA where she has been living ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish.
Mrs. Egan has worked for various companies and holds an Insurance license for the State of Florida. Not her favorite field but involves very nice folks and makes money!
Maria Catalina Egan is married and has one son, who together with their five pound Chihuahua makes her feel like a fulltime mother.   Although she would not call herself an Astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in Astrology. This is one of her many past times when she is not writing or researching.
She celebrated her 52nd birthday on July 2nd 2011 and gave herself self-publishing The Bridge of Deaths as a gift; she never submitted it to anyone prior to this decision and has enjoyed the very positive feedback.

The Ologys I enjoy or is it Ologies?
Years ago a friend’s roommate asked him to forward his grades to Italy, this was many moons ago. For you who are young enough to see it as the pre-historic era of snail mail and in dire circumstances telegrams, for me in my distant youth.
Back to years ago… as a precaution to avoid unpleasant surprises or problems with his parents, (they were after all paying a hefty American tuition whilst thinking in Italian Lire) the friend asked his roommate to warn him if any of his grades were not what his parents would deem acceptable. The young man in question received a telegram one morning in Rome and it read as follows:
“You failed all the ologys so I recommend you change major ASAP.” His advice was taken and the would be scientist became a lawyer instead.
I dabble in Ologys (or Ologies if you wish) the fun or spiritual kind, the kind that no-one can fail there are many to be sure but these are my favorites  Astrology, Numerology, Dreamology (really called Oneiromancy) and Name-ology ( I thought I made that one up but found it on-line so go figure). A skeptic by nature these hobbies of mine amaze me when they work and I can always convince myself they do; if it makes me feel better.
In astrology and by this I do not mean read horoscopes that would pretty much be the equivalent of saying all brown-eyed girls will have the same experience today. No, I am talking about astrological charts, individualized bits of paper that use the exact time, date and place of birth. This can be done for an individual as well as for the opening of a business.
If you ever visit a Cheesecake Factory look up and be amazed at all the astrology floating on the ceiling of each restaurant.  David Overton used the help of an astrologer to give birth to the concept and find the right site. I think he says he doesn’t anymore…but who knows?
There are a number of sites on-line that will provide you with your free chart; I’m not here to promote any just to entertain you at the Teen Book Guru. It is a fun tool to get to know your-self better. To be honest the first few years I worked with my chart I laughed at any of the negative stuff; overly critical? Not me. Of course every time I found myself being somewhat critical I put it in check and then I decided I was simply  highly discerning and just because some astrologer chose the wrong words it did not make it a negative trait. I have through the years gotten to know myself better and criticize less.
These days I am using, abusing and bending the rules of numerology. I am doing this because I have made it a strong element in a fictional book I am writing and in fiction you can do anything you want.  Anything like when choosing a characters name…I knew a guy (yes back in the snail-mail pre-historic era) who claimed the guy who wrote The Exorcist named the poor possessed kid after a college professor he did not like; his Dad and he did have a last name that matched the ill-fated girl’s name. I am also not recommending the book, I had it hidden between my mattress and box spring and read it late at night and had horrible dreams for months, I was 15 and it cured me from reading any horror to this day, this day placing me at an age past the half century mark.
But numerology is a really fun tool to play with and a super easy one to learn. Again there are so many free sites on-line that I will not bore you with the details of it all. I do find that ever since I started working on the book I am writing I find the same numbers in so many places and that I am really getting into that cool new show my teen age son likes Touched.
Some of my hobbies do not end in ology such as Palmistry, Reiki or Tarot. I play with them and my family laughs and calls me superstitious, however sometimes when they have a big question and then they just call me and ask, “What do you think? You who dabble in all these predictive things…”

    1. Thank you Amelia. My logical mind says that those "pseudo-sciences" should not work and yet my experiences have taught me quite a different thing.
      Thanks for dropping by.

  4. Interesting post, Catalina :) I admit that numerology scares me a bit since I first tried using alphabetic systems on my full name. :) You have intrigued me, though and later this week I may have to go online and work myself up a chart :)

    1. Thanks for dropping by Tara. One of my fave sources for numerology is a really fun show on Tenacity Radio called The Psychic Switch with Beckah Boyd you can listen to the archives while you are doing something else.
I am playing a lot around with numerology and the more advanced when you do the pinnacles and such is as predictive as a good astrology chart.
      Thanks again for dropping by.
