When the principal announces that every senior must participate in a mandatory year-long Marriage Education program, Fiona Sheehan believes that her life can't get any worse. Then she marries her "husband": jerky jock Todd, whose cheerleader girlfriend, Amanda, has had it in for Fiona since day one of second grade.
Even worse? Amanda is paired with Fiona's long-term crush, Gabe. At least Fiona is doing better than her best friend, Marcie, who is paired up with the very quiet, very mysterious Johnny Mercer.
Pranks, fights, misunderstandings, and reconciliations ensue in an almost Shakespearean comedy of errors about mistaken first impressions, convoluted coupling, and hidden crushes.

Another scrumptious, sugary sweet read that I really had fun reading. Even though I didn't end up enjoying this one as much as 7 Clues, it's clear that Walker has a knack for writing glacé reads with delightful romances and charming (for the most part, anyway) characters.
Fiona didn't think High School could get worse. But, introduce a mandatory Marriage Ed class, a hot, part-time Quarterback, part-time jerk, and a mysterious, quiet guy you've been crushing on for, like, ever, who, WHAT? Doesn't even know your name? *cue sobs* And you've got yourself what seems to be a long, traumatic, LONG year ahead.
Upon starting A Match Made in High School, I was super excited. It was the end of a long and tiring week, my feet were up, a glass of hot chocolate in my hand, my favorite pink bunny PJs were on... I was looking forward to a captivating, witty, engaging read. Witty it was, thanks to the crackling, fizzing Fiona (seriously, she scared me!), but other than that, it was a downer for me.
There definitely were times when I caught myself laughing (with, not at) the characters, or reading hurriedly to find out what was going to happen next, but I just didn't get it. When Todd and Fiona were fighting with each other, I know it was meant to seem cute and all, but to me it wasn't. Todd was really mean sometimes! I probably sound like a wuss for saying this but I don't find mean people attractive. I just don't. So I guess that's why I didn't end up loving this, because Todd was meant to come off as appealing and he was actually kind of repulsive in my eyes. Sorry, Señor Shitslacks!
Fiona, on the other hand, was a pretty cool character. Most of the time she was relatable, and her comebacks were awesome! I'm planning on writing them down somewhere just in case... Honestly, her mind is like a machine for facetious, totally hilarious comebacks! I felt extremely bad for the way she was treated by Amanda- Todd's girlfriend, and even though she didn't take it too personally, I did. Grow a spine Riya!
The ending, and the overall tying of the knot was a tad sloppy in my opinion. It was a huge surprise that I did not see coming at all- it kinda felt like Walker was stuck and couldn't think of a proper way for everything to come together, so she just put the orange with the apple. Because there was no banana. Or whatever. Worst analogy ever? Methinks thou dost not protest enough. But, she did put those two, uh, people/fruits together, and it's a fact that apples are just not, in no way whatsoever, compatible with oranges.

It sounds really interesting from the summary and I might try it myself one day. Interesting review! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this review, Riya! You're hilarious. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds quite fun and cute, overall. Marriage Ed is a class?! You don't get those things over here. :P Fiona sounds like a great character, too. I usually get along with witty main characters just fine. But it's a shame parts of this let you down. Still, brilliant review as always! I might add this to my library-copy list. :)
I actually liked this one more than 7 Clues (also read it first) because I found it funnier and also I found Fiona more appealing. I still can't believe they made the Marriage Ed course mandatory without any trial period or anything-that doesn't ring true to me.
ReplyDeleteI remember discovering this book a few months ago and not really being interested in it but it looks like a cute, light read :) It is a shame that the ending was sloppy, I find that very frustrating sometimes. Thanks for the great review, Riya! Like Sam said, you're hilarious :D I always love reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteI found myself laughing a lot when I read this book. It's a definitely a cute read, and one that I enjoyed a lot. Great review, Rita! :)

I had actually had this on my tbr list then I took it off and then added it back. I was flip-flopping with should I or shouldn't I. Right now I have it off my list. I'm just iffy about reading this one... Thank you for the review.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you didn't really enjoy this one. I read it first so I highly enjoyed it (and then I also really liked the second book by Walker too). I can't remember the dynamics of the relationship too much right now, so I can't comment too much...however, I'm not a big fan of mean characters (or people) either. :)
ReplyDeletereally well written, honest and funny review. The blurb sounds intresting but I agree mean people are so not attractive. I love your blog, could u plz follow mine. It would mean a lot. Happy Blogging - Sunny @ www.asupersunnyspot.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really fun book it's too bad that it loses a bit of its flair. I don't find jerks attractive either and it often affects my interest in a book that has one in it. "Because there was no banana." *snort*
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a really fun book and a fun synopsis, but I wouldn't be able to get past mean Todd. Mean guys are so not attractive. But really great review, it sounds witty!
ReplyDeleteA fun review for a fun book! I'd like to read 7 clues more though because I don't like mean people/characters as well.
ReplyDeleteThe premise sounds so cute and I was all excited waiting to hear how much you swooned over this, Riya. But I guess for the most part this fell flat for you. You are not a wuss to not like mean people, they are so not cool! Lovely review, Riya. I'll have to check out 7 Clues instead. :)
ReplyDeleteWell it sounds like it started out super cute and fun but the ending fizzled, I hate that. Hope you at least enjoyed your afternoon cuddled up in your jammies with your hot chocolate. Next week will be better.
ReplyDeleteI gotta admit that this one sounds mighty cute! And I love the cover. I don't read a lot of books like this one, but I might just have to try this one out!!
ReplyDeletePink Bunny PJ's FTW! I hate it when we are supposed to fall for the fights and think they are adorable but the characters are just being douchey. Great review, too bad this one lost it's spark for ya
ReplyDeleteHha! Your pink bunny PJ's, (: And I get what your saying about Todd. I haven't read this book, but I can relate to what your saying. Mean people are not attractive! Great review! I've had this on my TBR for a while and I've just been waiting for a chance to get a copy. I'll probably try and get one from the library rather than buying it now!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it had potential but I have a feeling Todd would ruin it for me, too. I don't like when guys are meant to be appealing but they end up being idiots!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review, this book sounds cute, but maybe not the type of book I would read.
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a fun, sugary read! I'm definitely going to be checking this one out, Riya <3 It sounds quirky and light and great to come to after a depressing week! Delightful romances? Yeah, gimme ;) It's a shame you didn't fall for Todd - I totally understand, mean characters are hard to love!
ReplyDeleteFantastic review, Riya <3
Great review. It was a cute book.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a fun concept! Imagine if schools actually had a program like that, hahah! I hate when the main love interest is a jerk, it ruins everything. Glad you enjoyed parts of it though =)
