Sweet Peril (The Sweet Trilogy, #2) by Wendy Higgins

Release Date: April 30, 2013
Publisher: Harper Teen
Rating: YA 16+
Genre/s: Paranormal, Romance
Pages: 371

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Damn damn damn! Is it just Kaidan Rowe, or is it HOT in here?! Tantalising, exciting, romantic... this sequel was a whirlwind of emotions for me. I was hooked from the beginning till the last freaking punctuation mark. This was one of the five books I got from the library last week, and it was the ONLY one I actually finished. These days, with all the tests and shit going on, it takes a real gem to keep me satisfied, and this did even more!!!

These books aren't those type of self-searching, deep ones that keep you up late at night thinking about the cruelty of mankind and all, but they are so damn satisfying and entreating  Kind of like reality TV shows or like chocolate fudge brownies- they aren't really good for you, but they are so yummy. (I'm not really making sense, am I? :P) I think my favourite part of this sequel was the relationships between different characters. Although the plot could have been developed further, it was super refreshing to be back with Anna!

Kaidan was more charismatic than ever, which escalated the romantic tension between him and Anna to a place I didn't even know it could go! At some points it was so strangely dramatic (baking cookies?) I felt like bursting out in hysteric giggles- however, I managed to control that inappropriate urge. My love for Kaidan is no surprise, whereas my newfound respect and adoration for Kopano? I did NOT see that coming! It's not so much that I think he's good for Anna, but he would make some girl VERY happy, and towards the end I think for him it's the start of something new... *happy tears*

The ending was not as spectacular as Sweet Evil's, to say the least. I know it's supposed to be a cliffhanger, but it was less of 'HOLY SCHNITZEL WHERE IS THE NEXT BOOK' and more 'Ehh????' on my part, anyway. Nonetheless, that was just one flaw. And I would be lying if I said I didn't breeze through this like it was the last drop of water on a dessert island.

P.S. If anyone knows where a girl can get herself a Kaidan Rowe, could they let me know ASAP?

**Note: My reviews are going to be a lot shorter from now on, as I don't have the time to plan them out as well as I could before. Sorry for the rambling! You guys rock!**

  1. Haha. You pretty much summed up my exact feelings! I'm still trying to figure out what about this book makes me burst into giggles during every scene! Although, if I were to guess, I think it has to do with a certain uber-hot romantic lead.

  3. I actually have the first book of this series to read soon, so I briefly read over your review, but the hotness of Kaidan didn't go unnoticed or your great rating! You totally have me excited about starting this series soon! :)

  4. I love this series! Can't wait for the third book. And, I agree, the ending wasn't as good as Sweet Evil's, but I am still looking forward to the final book!

  5. Hey the chocolate fudge brownies make complete sense! ;) I do know what you mean by that. It's usually how I feel about a lot of guilty pleasure PNRs that I pick up. I'm glad this worked for you, Riya! I actually had some mixed thoughts about the first book, but I did like the characters well enough most of the time. I guess I'll still end up giving this a try. Great review! :)
